SHENANDOAH — Fire gutted one home and damaged another in the borough Friday night.

Firefighters were called to 217 W. Arlington St. about 10:30 p.m. for a house fire and found the first floor of the home engulfed in flames.

Crews were able to bring the fire under control in about 15 minutes, but not before the building sustained extensive damage.

Also damaged in the fire was an unoccupied attached home at 219 W. Arlington St.

That home, fire officials said, sustained minor fire, smoke and water damage. Both buildings were unoccupied at the time of the fire, Shenandoah police said at the scene.

Shenandoah fire marshal Rick Examitas of Phoenix Fire Company said no injuries were reported and that crews from Frackville and Mahanoy City assisted at the scene.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and remains under investigation.

Examitas said fire officials are being assisted by state police fire marshal Trooper Thomas Finn of the Schuylkill Haven station.

EMS crews from Shenandoah, Frackville and Lost Creek were also at the scene and traffic control was under the direction of Shenandoah fire police.
