MAHANOY CITY — Mahanoy City Police Chief John Kaczmarczyk is reminding residents that the borough will be doing snow removal through 6 p.m. today on the south side of Mahanoy Avenue.
There will no parking on the south side of the street between that time, the chief said.
Kaczmarczyk also said that due to the snow storm, recycling and trash collection have been move back one day. Recycling items will be collected on Friday and garbage on Saturday.

sexual assault
WILLIAMSTOWN — An inappropriate sexual relationship between a 28-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy took place in identified locations in Williamstown Borough, Dauphin County, during the middle of the year in 2015 until Jan. 21, 2016, according to state police in Lykens.
An investigation into the alleged statutory sexual assault continues, police said.

charged in theft
TOWER CITY — A 12-year-old boy from Williamstown faces a theft charge, after state police in Lykens said he forcefully entered student lockers at Williams Valley High School at 2 p.m., Jan. 20.
The boy, police said, successfully entered three lockers, taking numerous items identified as school supplies, pencils, pens and markers valued at $10.
The accused’s actions were captured on the school’s video surveillance system and he admitted to stealing the items, according to police. The accused boy has a history of misconduct and was previously arrested by police in 2015 due to an incident in which he vandalized school property, police said.
School officials requested police involvement in this incident.
The boy was charged with one count of misdemeanor theft, and his case was referred to the Dauphin County juvenile court system.

in hit-run crash
NUREMBERG — State police in Frackville are investigating a hit-and-run accident in North Union Township.
Police said the driver of an older model Chevrolet pickup truck was driving north on Mahanoy Street at 5 a.m. Tuesday, about 1033 feet west of Mountain Road. The operator lost control of the truck while on a right curve in the roadway and exited the road on the west side, striking a utility pole with the truck’s front end, causing major damage to the pole.
The truck became stuck in the snow. A short time later, a witness reported seeing a dark colored pickup truck attempting to pull the stuck truck out of the snow. The operator was able to get the vehicle unstuck and fled the scene in an unknown direction without reporting the crash to police. The older model Chevrolet pickup truck should have front end damage, police said. Anyone with information can call state police at 570-874-5200.
Man charged
in rear-end crash
Pottsville police investigated a crash that occurred about 8 a.m. Friday at the 14th Street and Laurel Boulevard.
Police said their investigation revealed that Christine Inhoffer, 39, of Lehighton, was driving a 2006 Porsche Cayenne SUV west on Laurel Boulevard with a minor child inside and applied her left turn signal and stopped in the road to turn left onto the Pottsville Alumni Field parking lot.
It was then the woman’s SUV was struck from behind by a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado being driven west on Laurel Boulevard by Michael Ciccanti who had three minor children inside his vehicle, police said.
Police said Inhoffer complained of neck pain but declined medical treatment. Her passenger, along with Ciccanti and his passengers, all escaped injury.
Police said that Ciccanti will be cited for causing the crash and that his vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

stolen from garage
State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a burglary that occurred at 30 Pear St. in Branch Township between 11 p.m. Jan. 20 and 10:15 a.m. Jan. 21.
Police said someone entered a garage owned by Robert Hammer and stole a white 2005 Honda CRF-450R dirt bike and a black 2012 Honda TRX 450 ATV before fleeing undetected.

fails to comply
ALTAMONT — A Tamaqua man was charged by state police on Thursday with failing to comply with the registration requirements as a Megan’s Law offender.
Police said Edward S. Johnson, 58, was taken into custody and charged after an investigation revealed that he failed to update his required information as required by law.
McAdoo man
faces theft charge
HOMETOWN — Rush Township police arrested a McAdoo man for a theft at 7:55 p.m. Sunday at Wal-Mart.
Police said Joshua Gundry, 27, was charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property. He was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge David Rossi, Tremont, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $5,000 straight cash bail.
Police said they charged Gundry with stealing items valued at $472.28 from the store.
Police: Man tried
to steal appliance
HAMBURG — A Schuylkill Haven man was arrested by state police at Hamburg in connection with an incident about 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Wal-Mart, 1800 Tilden Ridge Drive, in Tilden Township.
Police said Mark A. Koles, 48, tried to remove a Power Stroke gas pressure washer from the store without paying for the item.
He was taken into custody and charged with felony retail theft and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.
Boy, girl charged
after confrontation
TOWER CITY — State police in Lykens charged a 14-year-old Williamstown boy and a 13-year-old Tower City girl with a summary charge of harassment, following an incident with another teen at Williams Valley High School.
Police report the two accused teens got into a physical confrontation with a 13-year-old Goodspring boy, punching the victim in the head multiple times during the school’s lunch period between 11 and 11:30 a.m., Jan. 19. The incident occurred in the Williams Valley High School cafeteria and the event was captured on the school’s video surveillance, police said.
School officials requested police involvement. The summary charge of harassment was to be filed on both of the accused before District Magisterial Judge Rebecca J. Margerum, Elizabethville.
