A federal grand jury in Scranton on Tuesday indicted an inmate at Federal Correctional Institution/Schuylkill on a charge that he possessed a homemade weapon behind bars.
Davon Perry, 36, of Maryland, possessed a homemade sharpened weapon in June 2015 at the prison in Mount Pleasant, Foster Township, federal prosecutors allege.
Perry faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison, a period of supervised release following imprisonment and a $250,000 fine if convicted of the crime.
The FBI investigated the case, which is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd K. Hinkley.
Perry is serving 30 years in federal prison, and an additional five years on supervised release after his imprisonment, after being sentenced on Dec. 2, 2008, in U.S. District Court in Maryland for carjacking and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime.
U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz, who had presided over Perry’s trial, imposed the sentence.
A jury had found Perry guilty on July 24, 2008, of the two crimes. Federal authorities allege Perry committed the crimes on Feb. 4, 2008, in Baltimore.
