PALO ALTO — A gasoline-like odor in Palo Alto was under investigation Wednesday by the Greater Pottsville Area Sewer Authority, according to Timothy R. Yingling, GPASA executive director.

The GPASA generated a service order to investigate the complaint at 130 W. Savory St., Palo Alto, Yingling said.

“I know that our street crew responded to the complaint today, but I don’t have their written report yet,” he said Wednesday afternoon.

The county’s communications center received two calls about the odor that was reported at 9:23 a.m. in the 130 W. Bacon St. area, according to John W. Blickley, deputy emergency management coordinator for Schuylkill County. Blickley said GPASA was notified Wednesday morning to conduct further investigation.

The street crew spoke with Chuck Seaman at the property on Thursday, Yingling said.

He stated that the Palo Alto Fire Company was on-site and were flushing the sewer line inside and ventilated the area.

“All was OK at the time and there were no other calls complaining of a gasoline odor in the area,” he said.

Palo Alto Police Chief Joseph J. Kavanaugh said no detour and no evacuation of the immediate area was needed.

Kavanaugh said Palo Alto has a mutual aid agreement with Port Carbon Fire Company, who responded to the scene.

Blickley said the fire company did not request any assistance.
