The Most Rev. Ronald W. Gainer, bishop of Harrisburg, was discharged from the hospital Friday where he was admitted April 22.
“His physical condition is much improved. He will be taking a period of time for rest and recuperation before returning to his normal schedule,” Joseph Aponick, diocesan director of communications, said in a prepared statement. “A complete recovery from a digestive disorder is expected. He is truly grateful for all of the prayers and good wishes that he has received during his hospitalization.”
Gainer, 66, a Pottsville native, was bishop of Lexington, Kentucky, from 2003 until he was appointed to Harrisburg in 2014 to fill the vacancy left by the death of the Most Rev. Joseph P. McFadden.
