Hegins Rotary

Ashley Heisler, a senior at Tri-Valley High School, Hegins, was the Hegins-Valley View Rotary Club student of the month for February.

She attended the club’s February meetings and gave a presentation on her interest in crocheting. What started as a service project to crochet nine-by-nine-inch squares to make blankets for cancer patients blossomed into a hobby. Ashley shared several of her blankets and crocheted animals that she has created with the group.

Ashley serves as president of the Tri-Valley High School Chapter of the National Honor Society, participates in band, chorus and German club and is an active Girl Scout. A daughter of Richard and Sherry Heisler, Valley View, she will attend Lycoming College, Williamsport, in the fall to study biology.

Ashland Rotary

Kelsey Burns, a North Schuylkill High School senior, was chosen as student of the month for February by the Ashland Area Rotary Club.

Kelsey’s high school activities include National Honor Society, Teens Against Tobacco, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Theatre Arts, pep club, soccer, North Schuylkill Newscast, presidents club, captains club, Science Honor Society, of which she is president and English Honor Society. Her community service includes youth group, mission trips and Vacation Bible School at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Ashland, and soccer clinics.

She is a daughter of Jennie Yeagle and Pat Burns, and plans to attend West Chester University and study in the pre-medical program.

Shen Rotary

Meghan Artley, a senior at Shenandoah Valley High School, was named student of the month for March by the Shenandoah Rotary Club.

Meghan’s high school activities include senior class president, student council, National Honor Society, window painting, Jump Rope for Heart, honor guard, float committee, drama club president, talent search program, cheer-leading captain, junior cheerleading captain, morning announcements, Pennsylvania State Computer Fair participant, Schuylkill County Chorus, Schuylkill County Youth Summit, spring queen court and homecoming court.

Her community service includes Downtown Shenandoah Inc. Christmas Carol production, Greater Shenandoah Area Chamber of Commerce holiday lighting fund collection, cross country meet volunteer, midget football water girl, Rescue Hook and Ladder Fire Company block party volunteer, Powder Puff football volunteer, midget cheerleading volunteer, Shenandoah Sesquicentennial Committee donation canvassing, Schuylkill Keep It Pretty volunteer, American Red Cross blood drive, fundraisers for a student who passed away, SPCA, Toys for Tots and a fire victim, volunteer for Special Olympics volunteer, Christmas fair and elementary book fair, numerous student council service projects and school representative at the ADL Youth Conference.

Meghan won first place in web design at the county computer fair, is an All American cheerleader, and earned a Majestic Award for outstanding leading actress and a bronze medal award for National Honor Society.

She is a daughter of Robert and Lori Hoffman, Shenandoah, and plans to attend Marywood University, Scranton, and study architectural design.
