A Pottsville man will spend time behind state prison bars after being sentenced Friday in Schuylkill County Court for burglarizing a city business in December 2014.

Jerome A. Borinsky Jr., 61, will spend 24 months in the state intermediate punishment program, which combines prison time with substance abuse rehabilitation under the terms of Judge Charles M. Miller’s sentence.

“This is a great opportunity for you,” Miller told Borinsky.

Miller also sentenced Borinsky to pay costs and $1,334 restitution, and submit a DNA sample to law enforcement authorities.

Borinsky pleaded guilty on Nov. 12, 2015, to burglary, criminal trespass, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief.

Pottsville police charged Borinsky with breaking into the now-closed Good Will Book Store, 310 N. Centre St., on Dec. 14, 2014, and stealing $287 in cash. Borinsky admitted committing the crimes, saying he was high on methamphetamines and used the money he stole to buy more of the drug, according to police.

Borinsky already is an inmate at State Correctional Institution/Camp Hill in Cumberland County, and Miller conducted Friday’s hearing by audioconference.

Also on Friday, Randy R. Dengler, 27, of Ashland, pleaded guilty to unlawful taking or possession of game or wildlife.

Miller accepted the plea and sentenced Dengler to pay costs and an $800 fine.

Pennsylvania Game Commission officals charged Dengler with committing the crime on Nov. 6, 2015, in Barry Township. Magisterial District Judge David J. Rossi, Tremont, had found Dengler guilty on Feb. 10, but the defendant appealed that ruling on Feb. 29.

Prosecutors withdrew the same charge on Friday against Dengler’s co-defendant, Tanner J. Wilson, 23, of Hegins.
