n Pottsville: Debbie Herb and Tracy Miller of Diakon Community Services recently spoke to the Pottsville Lions Club regarding services provided by Diakon to senior citizens throughout the county. Herb and Miller said services include five senior centers strategically located throughout the county; PrimeTime Health, a program that offers health education and fitness classes to seniors so they can have fun, get fit and enjoy fellowship with other seniors; the Apprise program that assists seniors in obtaining additional health care coverage when once enrolled on Medicare; Meals-On-Wheels, which delivers specially prepared meals directly to a consumer’s home, and Living and Learning after 50, which offers courses, classes, events, trips and workshops designed active older adults. Miller is in charge of the Meals-On-Wheels program and Herb oversees and monitors the senior community center. According to the Lions bulletin, Miller and Herb also got the group involved in several games that are used to help seniors maintain a healthy lifestyle and keen sense of mental acuity.

n Summit Station: An antique tractor pull will be among the activities at the annual Bear Creek Festival to be held May 15 at the Schuylkill County Fairgrounds. Registration for the pull will begin at 10 a.m. and the event will start at noon. The festival will go from noon to 4 p.m. For the pull, a $10 hook fee is charged per hook. Tractors must be model year 1959 or earlier and be wheel driven by the rear wheels only to participate in the pull. Classic 1960 to 1972 factory turbo models may participate with all antique rules applying.
