n Eckley: A lecture titled “Secrets and Anthracite” by mystery writer Marianne Wilski Strong will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Eckley auditorium at Eckley Miners Village. The lecture is free and the public is welcome. The lecture will focus on Wilski Strong’s writings and the influence of place in her stories, which are often set in the anthracite region of northeastern Pennsylvania.
n Frackville: A fishing fundraiser tournament to benefit the 2016 Pottsville Pythons 12U baseball team will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at South End Field and Steam Association, Whippoorwill Dam, 1 Whippoorwill Lane. Entry fee is $10 for children ages 12 and under and $20 for ages 13 and older. There is a $5 fee per extra line. Anglers must bring their own bait, and they can catch and release or keep the fish. n Herndon: The Line Mountain Council for the Arts and Humanities, in collaboration with the Line Mountain Band Boosters, will present “An Evening of Swing,” a dinner show featuring the After Hours Swing Band and the Lion Mountain Varsity Jazz Band, on June 4 at Lion Mountain High School. A pasta dinner will be served at 5 p.m. in the school cafeteria and include spaghetti, salad, rolls, beverage and dessert. Entertainment will follow at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets for the combination dinner and show are $14 for adults and $6 for students 12 and younger. Children under 5 will eat for free. Tickets for the show only are $8. n Schuylkill Haven: St. Mark’s Brown’s Church, 151 Summerhill Road, will hold a Blessing of the Soil & Seed Service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Each person will bring a pot of soil and seeds to plant, which will be used during the service at the picnic grove weather permitting. People should bring lawn chairs.
