MINERSVILLE — A man was jailed after being charged by Minersville police with threatening workers at a borough health care facility last week.

Police said John M. Howe, 54, who has no known address, was arraigned Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, on charges of four felony counts of terroristic threats and two misdemeanor offenses of harassment.

He was committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post 10 percent of $20,000 bail set by Plachko.

Patrolman Harry Brown IV charged Howe stemming from an incident on Jan. 19 at The Primary Health Network/Schuylkill Community Health Center, 215 Sunbury St.

Brown said he learned two employees had separate encounters with Howe over the telephone. Howe told one of the workers he was going to kill her, called her an obscene name and again said he was going to kill her.

The second employee reported that Howe used obscene language with her and also told her he was going to “freak out and kill someone” because he could not get his medication, Brown said.

Due to the threats, the medical office was placed on lockdown, causing a serious inconvenience for the public and disrupting normal operations.

Howe will now have to appear for a preliminary hearing before Plachko in his Port Carbon courtroom.
