SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS — The West Mahanoy Township supervisors added two part-time officers to the police department during Tuesday’s meeting.
The supervisors hired William Moyer Jr. and Devin Bodman at the probationary rate of $15 per hour. There were nine applications for the position. Neither officer has worked for the township before. Moyer is employed part-time in Shenandoah and Bodman is part-time in Frackville.
The supervisors held an executive session for personnel reasons before voting for the new officers.
At their May 5 special meeting, the supervisors promoted part-time Patrolman Marvin Livergood as the new full-time police chief and made part-time Patrolman John Kaczmarczyk III a full-time officer. The supervisors’ actions brings the police force to three full-time officers, the third being Raymond Tonkinson.
In other business, the supervisors received a letter from the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Shenandoah requesting an extension on the deadline to do street repairs at areas where authority repairs were made. Both sides agreed to finishing the work by May 15, but due to recent inclement weather, the work has been delayed. The MABS requested an extension, which was granted by the supervisors to June 15.
The supervisors acknowledged a letter from the state Department of Environmental Protection for the operations renewal granted to the Shenandoah Sewer Authority. Township Secretary Michael Michalik said notices are sent routinely for renewals to municipalities served by the service provider.
The supervisors also approved a request from the Altamont Fire Company for its annual block party on July 17 and 18 to close the 200 block of Green Street on both days and to have police assistance for the equipment parade on July 17.
A contract with Pottsville Materials LLC was accepted for anti-skid materials at $5.95 per ton through the state’s COSTARS program.
