TREMONT — A Massachusetts man died in a crash Monday on Interstate 81 in Frailey Township, according to state police at Jonestown.
Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Joseph Pothering said the man is Natale L. Lapriore, 73, of Fall River, Massachusetts.
Police said a 2014 Harley-Davidson, driven by Lapriore, was traveling south in the right lane of Interstate 81 about 4 p.m. behind a 2016 Volvo tractor-trailer driven by Edythe P. Bumgardner, Keystone Heights, Florida. As traffic approached a single-lane construction zone, the tractor-trailer was slowing to a stop when it was struck in the rear by the motorcycle. Both vehicles came to rest in the right lane.
“He hit the back of a tractor-trailer,” Pothering said.
Pothering could not confirm if the man was wearing a helmet, but he said after talking with a relative that Lapriore often wore a helmet when he rode his motorcycle.
Pothering pronounced the man dead at 4:57 p.m.
Schuylkill County Coroner Dr. David J. Moylan III said a virtual autopsy will be performed today at the Simon Kramer Institute, New Philadelphia.
“It was a tramatic death on a public highway,” he said.
Police said the motorcycle sustained severe damage, while the tractor-trailer received minor damage.
