SHENANDOAH — A 31-year-old inmate at State Correctional Instituion/Mahanoy City charged with assaulting a corrections officer while incarcerated at SCI/Frackville on Oct. 12 waived his right to a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker.

Cordell Adams was arrested by state police Trooper Edward Lizewski of the Frackville station and charged with two felony counts of assault by prisoner, one felony count of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor offense of simple assault.

Lizewski said that Adams, who is serving a life sentence, walked up to the desk of a corrections sergeant and threw a bottle at him. Adams then went behind the desk and struck the officer several times in the head and face with a closed fist as well as kicking him in the legs and torso.

The assault left the guard with serious injuries to his head and face that required treatment at an area hospital, Lizewski said.

Other court cases included:

Ariane Ani Coleman, 26, of 720 Seneca St., Pottsville; withdrawn: conspiracy and simple assault.

Tyler J. Smith, 29, of 510 E. Pine St., Mahanoy City; waived for court: DUI-controlled substance, restrictions on alcoholic beverages, failure to use safety belts, illegal parking or standing, driving a vehicle without insurance, fraudulent use or removal of a registration plate, criminal trespass, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Darryl J. Hetherington II, 31, of 34 Jerry’s Road, Ringtown; waived for court: DUI, DUI-highest rate, disregard for single traffic lane, careless driving, restrictions on alcoholic beverages, failure to use safety belts and driving a vehicle without a valid inspection.

John Mazack, 61, of 408 Furnace St., Shenandoah; withdrawn: DUI-controlled substance, restrictions on alcoholic beverages, driving a vehicle without insurance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Waived for court: DUI-controlled substance, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving a vehicle with a suspended registration.

Emmanuel Santiago, 28, of 416 W. Oak St., Shenandoah; withdrawn by the officer and victim: theft of leased property.

Abagail R. Cooney, 20, of 121 Raven Run Road, Box 208, Lost Creek; waived for court: possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and no headlights.

William J. Sanchez, 28, of 26 S. Ninth St., Mahanoy City; withdrawn by the district attorney: theft and receiving stolen property.

Rayna K. Honsby, 20, of 128 N. Chestnut St., Shenandoah; waived for court: possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Rachael Pleva Sanko, 37, of 230 N. Highland St., Shenandoah; withdrawn by police: possession of drug paraphernalia.
