A change in venue for the 23rd annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life resulted in more money being raised during the event, the event chairman said.
Charles R. “Chuck” Joy said $14,422 was raised during the 24-hour event held at The Island in Schuylkill Haven from Saturday to Sunday. He said the change in venue was “pretty much what I would say is the overriding factor” in the additional money raised this year.
The event previously had been held at Veterans Memorial Stadium at Pottsville Area High School for 22 years. Last year, a little more than $10,000 was received for the cause during that day and $117,491 overall.
The current overall total for the 23rd annual relay is $78,994.92. He said additional money can be contributed to the cause until August. The goal is $125,000. Those wishing to donate can visit www.americancancersociety.org or call the Frackville office at 570-874-1413.
