Ashland Rotary
Jordan Marlow, a senior at North Schuylkill High School, was chosen as student of the month for November by the Ashland Area Rotary Club.
Jordan’s high school activities include football, basketball, baseball, National Honor Society, where he serves as secretary; math, history, science, English and Spanish honor societies; student council, Teens Against Tobacco and SADD. He also serves as Math Honor Society president, Friends Forever treasurer and class historian.
His community service includes Big Brothers/Big Sisters and DARE.
He is a son of Jack and Jennifer Marlow, Ashland, and plans to attend Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, or Bloomsburg University to major in math for secondary education with a master’s degree and principal certification.
Logan Bell, a senior at North Schuylkill High School, was chosen as student of the month for December by the Ashland Area Rotary Club.
Logan’s high school activities include National Honor Society, English, science, math and history honor societies, yearbook and “In The News” newscasts. His community service includes his senior project where he created a 24-foot mural at Higher-Up Park/Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine & Steam Train, Ashland.
He is a son of Susan Bell, Ashland, and plans to attend college and major in mechanical engineering.
Frackville Rotary
Joseph Nahas, a senior at Marian High School, was honored as Frackville Rotary Club student of the month for September at a meeting at Cracker Barrel Restaurant at the Schuylkill Mall.
A student with a 4.0 GPA, he is a member of SADD, Green Club, an environmental organization and Teens Against Tobacco. He has participated in varsity football and baseball.
Joseph has served as a camp leader volunteer at Frackville’s Vacation Bible School for the past three years. He has also volunteered to coach practices for the Frackville Teener teams.
A son of Joseph and Tracy Nahas, Frackville, he is interested in attended St. Joseph’s University, Philadelphia, Villanova University, Bucknell University, Lewisburg, or other institutions of high learning. His future plans involve the medical field. He would like to become a doctor who conducts stem cell research in order to cure patients with neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease.
Major Jordan, son of Ron and Robyn Jordan, Frackville, was honored by the Frackville Rotary Club as student of the month for November at a meeting at Cracker Barrel Restaurant near Frackville.
A junior at North Schuylkill High School, Jordan is currently ranked third in his class of 149 students with a 4.0 GPA and is a three-year distinguished honor roll student. He is a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Parish, Frackville, and a member of the school’s varsity football and basketball teams.
Jordan’s student and community involvement include class vice president, student council, North Schuylkill Strategic Planning Committee, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Presidents Club, Teens Against Tobacco, Powder Puff Football, Feed a Friend project and Bowl for Kids’ Sake.
He has volunteered and mentored the youth of the Frackville community and surrounding areas, which includes Frackville Mountaineer Football, Frackville Punt, Pass and Kick, Jungle on the Mountain and Frackville Little League. As a member of the North Schuylkill football team, he and the team have donated hours to help clean up parks in Ringtown, Ashland and Frackville.
Jordan completed the required senior graduation project while a junior this past summer. With the help and donations from the community, he was able to host a softball tournament that raised more than $2,000 for the Susie Chuma Scholarship Fund and in turn gave back to the North Schuylkill school community. The fund is used to award a scholarship for a North Schuylkill senior who is planning to further education in nursing.
Through Jordan’s hard work and dedication in academics and extracurricular activities, he has been recognized with accolades and awards, including the American Woodsman History Award of America, Pennsylvania All State Football First Team linebacker, Pennsylvania State Football Coaches Association Hot 100 Players in the state, Big 33, received a National Football Press release by Rivals Football for Boston College, Standard-Speaker Defensive Player of the Year, Dream Team and first team accolades from the All Anthracite Football League, Schuylkill County Football Coaches Association, All Eastern Pennsylvania Football, and PFN.
Jordan is interested in studying engineering or biological sciences. He is being recruited by several colleges nationally for his academics, community involvement and football accomplishments.
Mahanoy Area
Mahanoy Area High School seniors Jennie Neifert and Leonard Dulsky were named students of the month for November by Mahanoy City Elks Lodge 695.
Jennie is a daughter of Ronald and Carmella Neifert, Quakake. Her high school activities include National Honor Society, class vice president, student council, Future Business Leaders of America, of which she serves as parliamentarian; Interact Club, SADD, of which she is president; Olweus Youth Leadership, Bear Pride program and Theatre Arts club.
She was a homecoming candidate, and volunteers for Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Meals on Wheels and also served as Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership ambassador during her sophomore year.
She lettered in volleyball and served as team captain this year. She is a member of the track and field team, and was a member of the basketball team.
Upon graduation, Jennie plans to attend King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, to become a physician assistant.
Leonard is a son of Thomas and Michele Dulsky, Mahanoy City. His high school activities include National Honor Society, student council vice president, Olweus Youth Leadership, Bear Pride program, Future Business Leaders of America, of which he is vice president; Interact Club, Nutrition Advisory Council, SADD, Teens Against Tobacco, Theatre Arts club, Homecoming King candidate and Meals on Wheels volunteer. He also lettered in football, serving as a team captain this year.
Leonard also serves as an acolyte and usher for Christ Lutheran Church.
Upon graduation, Leonard plans to attend Kutztown or Shippensburg University and major in accounting.
Mahanoy Area High School seniors Kiera Van Horn and Adam Bahrey were named students of the month for December by Mahanoy City Elks Lodge 695.
Kiera, a daughter of Mary Ann and Scott Van Horn, Park Place, Mahanoy City, has been active in National Honor Society, Bloomsburg Math Contest Team, Olweus Youth Leadership, Interact Club, of which she is secretary; Nutrition Advisory Council, SADD, Teens Against Tobacco and Theatre Arts Club. She is a Meals on Wheels volunteer, and she was crowned 2015 homecoming queen.
Kiera was a member of the cross country team, track and field and serves as a captain of the basketball team and swim team.
Upon graduation, Kiera plans to attend West Chester University or Saint Joseph’s University, Philadelphia, and major in psychology.
Adam is a son of MaryBeth Evanco, Barnesville, and Eugene Bahrey, Treskow. He has been active in National Honor Society, Schuylkill County Academic Team, Bloomsburg Math Contest Team, student council, band, serving as secretary in his junior year and president and drum major in his senior year, choir, Interact and ski clubs, SADD, Teens Against Tobacco, and Theatre Arts Club. He is a Meals on Wheels volunteer and was a volunteer for the Senator Rhoades track and field meet.
Adam was a member of the cross country team, serving as a team captain, track and field and wrestling, serving as a team captain during his senior year.
Upon graduation, Adam plans to attend Penn State University or University of Pittsburgh and major in civil engineering, or enroll in an engineering dual degree program with King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, and University of Notre Dame.
