A Shenandoah man admitted Tuesday in Schuylkill County Court that he drove under the influence in April 2015 in his hometown.

Calvin P. Briggs Jr., 58, pleaded guilty to DUI and obscured plates, with prosecutors withdrawing a charge of stop sign violation.

Judge Charles M. Miller, who had been scheduled to preside over Briggs’ nonjury trial, instead accepted his plea and sentenced him to spend six months on probation and pay costs, $325 in fines and $100 to the Substance Abuse Education Fund.

“It seems like alcohol is the issue here,” Miller said after accepting the plea.

Shenandoah police alleged Briggs was DUI to the extent that he was incapable of safe driving on April 18, 2015, in the borough.

In another Tuesday case, Judge John E. Domalakes revoked the probation of Carly Fairchild, 22, of Lehighton, sentenced her to spend 82 days to 12 months in prison but granted her immediate parole. The judge also ordered Fairchild to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Domalakes revoked Fairchild’s probation after the defendant admitted violating it by failing to report to her supervising officer, failing to undergo drug screenings and not making payments on her costs and fees.

Fairchild originally pleaded guilty on June 17, 2015, to possession of drug paraphernalia. At that time, Domalakes placed her on probation for 12 months and also ordered her to pay costs and a $100 SAEF payment.

Coaldale police charged Fairchild with possessing paraphernalia on Oct. 14, 2014, in the borough.

Also on Tuesday, Domalakes revoked the parole of Bryan T. Evans, 29, of Pottsville, and sent him to a state correctional institution.

Domalakes revoked Evans’ parole after the defendant admitted violating it by committing new crimes.

“I relapsed. I hit a rough patch,” Evans testified. “I got scared.”

Evans must remain in state prison until Oct. 10, 2016, before having a chance for reparole, and could remain there until Nov. 16, 2020, under the terms of Domalakes’ order.

“You’ve been given multiple opportunities” and should go to state prison to stop his substance abuse, Domalakes said.

Evans originally pleaded guilty on Oct. 17, 2012, to DUI and driving under suspension-DUI related. At that time, Domalakes accepted Evans’ plea and sentenced him to serve 120 days to five years in prison and pay costs, $2,500 in fines, a $300 SAEF payment and $60 restitution to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.

Pottsville police alleged Evans was DUI with a suspended license on Aug. 23, 2011, in the city.

In other recent county court action, President Judge William E. Baldwin accepted guilty pleas from, and, pursuant to agreements between prosecutors and defendants, imposed the indicated sentences on, these people:

Megan Jean Beury, 28, of Ashland; possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia; 24 months probation, $100 SAEF payment and $50 to the Criminal Justice Enhancement Account.

Jose J. Delmoral-Rivera, 40, of Brooklyn, New York; failure to disperse and possession of drug paraphernalia; 18 months probation, $100 SAEF payment and $50 CJEA payment. Prosecutors withdrew charges of obstructing administration of law and disorderly conduct.

All defendants who were sentenced must pay costs as a part of their sentences.
