The Great Kulpmont Cruise will honor veterans with the title of grand marshal and a special program.
The 14th annual cruise will be held Sunday, with registration at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Angels picnic grounds on Scott and 10th streets. Vehicles will be judged from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and plagues will be presented after the cruise at the picnic grounds.
Joe Cesari, cruise chairman, said thousands of spectators will come out to see the vehicles from many decades that vary from antique cars and trucks to street rods, firetrucks, motorcycles, race cars and muscle cars.
Last year’s cruise had 205 vehicles and with good weather expected, Cesari said they should expect the same turnout.
“The nicer the day the more vehicles will participate in it,” he said.
According to the National Weather Service, sunny skies are expected Sunday with temperatures climbing into the low 80s.
The cruise committee is dedicating this year’s cruise to the veterans who served in World War I and II, Korea, Vietnam and those who served tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Cesari said the veterans expected to participate range in age from the 20s to 90s. They will represent the Coast Guard, Army Air Corps, Air Force, Navy, Marines and Army.
Cesari said a special program honoring the veterans will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Holy Angels picnic grounds before the cruise begins. He called it a “must-see” presentation and spectators are asked to display and wave their American flags.
Music during the cruise and program will include the themes of each military branch and “God Bless the USA” by Lee Greenwood. Cesari said he was also in talks with Fort Indiantown Gap to get military vehicles to participate in the cruise.
In addition, Holy Angels parish will run a concession stand with refreshments and ethnic foods.
The picnic grounds has restrooms and a covered pavilion for the public’s use.
