DUI checkpoints,

patrols scheduled

The North Central Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce announced that Sobriety Checkpoints and Roving DUI Patrols will be conducted through Monday on routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 1006, 309, 1008, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.

Travelers are reminded to call 911 if they suspect a drunk driver or to call, toll-free, 888-UNDER21, to report underage drinking.

Police investigate

package theft

McADOO — McAdoo police are investigating a theft that was reported about 7:10 p.m. June 1.

Police said Dominic Despirito reported the theft of a package. A UPS employee was delivering a package containing a security camera and related equipment valued at $161.59 for 27-29 S. Kennedy Drive when he was approached by a man at 23 S. Kennedy Drive.

The man, later identified as John Mercedes, 37, of New York, said he was Despirito, signed for the package and then reported to the police department that he took the package and that it was still to the rear of 23 S. Kennedy Drive.

Officers went to the location and found the box that had been opened at both ends and all labels were removed, police said. The items purchased were not in the box, and Mercedes was unable to provide information as to its whereabouts.

Pottsville man

arrested for theft

A 26-year-old Pottsville man was jailed after being arrested June 4 by Pottsville police in connection with an ongoing burglary investigation.

Police said Jeffrey Yeager was charged with burglary, forgery, theft and receiving stolen property and arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon. He was then committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post 10 percent of $15,000 bail.

Police said preliminary information determined by the investigation indicated that Yeager was the person responsible for the crime that occurred about 2 p.m. May 21 at a home at 318 Mauch Chunk St.

The investigation led officers to learn that Yeager had stolen $50 and a personal check belonging to the 60-year-old man, wrote the check to himself in the amount of $175 and forged the victim’s signature.

The check was subsequently cashed at Wells Fargo Bank, police said.

Pottsville man has

license suspended

Pottsville police investigated a crash that occurred about 10:15 p.m. Friday in the 1500 block of Laurel Boulevard.

Police said Kirby Nelson, 49, of Pottsville, was driving west when he went off the right side of the road, continued for about 50 feet and struck a PPL utility pole, causing disabling damage to his vehicle.

Police said moderate damage was done to the pole, forcing the road to be closed until repairs were completed by PPL.

Nelson was not injured in the crash but showed signs of being intoxicated and failed field sobriety tests, police said, adding that drug paraphernalia was found inside his vehicle.

The man was taken to an area hospital for a blood alcohol test that he refused, resulting in an automatic one-year suspension of his driver’s license independent of criminal charges.

Police also said that Nelson will be charged with DUI and careless driving and will have to answer before Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley, Pottsville.

Man jailed after

alleged bike theft

A report of a stolen bicycle to Pottsville police about 4:45 p.m. Saturday resulted in a man committed to Schuylkill County Prison.

Police said officers were called to the area of Domino’s Pizza, 300 Terry Reiley Way, and spoke to a 13-year-old boy from Seltzer who reported that a man, previously known to him as Carl and later identifed by police as Carl Jacques Jeune, 31, of Seltzer, stopped him in the unit block of North Centre Street, grabbed him by the right arm and did not allow him to leave.

The boy said Jeune then stole his Casino BMX style bicycle, valued at $600, and left the area, police said.

A short time later, Jeune was located at the A-Plus convenience store, East Norwegian Street and Route 61, and taken into custody. The bicycle was found with Jeune and returned to its owner, police said.

Jeune was subsequently charged with robbery, theft, receiving stolen property and harassment. He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley, Pottsville, who set bail at 10 percent of $15,000 and committed Jeune to Schuylkill County Prison.

Police said a separate complaint was filed against Jeune, charging him with indirect criminal contempt for violating a Protection From Abuse order in which the boy is a protected party.

Dunkin crash

results in injury

Pottsville police investigated a crash that was reported about 8:30 a.m. Monday in the area of Westwood Road and West End Avenue.

Police said William Robbins VIII, 20, of Pottsville, was driving a Lexus IS300 when he tried to exit the lot of Dunkin Donuts to travel on Westwood Road and drove into the path of a Chevrolet Spark being driven by a 20-year-old Mar Lin woman.

Police said a 24-year-old woman in the Robbins vehicle was treated at the scene by Schuylkill EMS and chose to seek additional medical attention on her own.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene, police said.

17-year-old girl

reports rape

ELIZABETHVILLE — State police at Lykens are investigating a rape that occurred Tuesday at 121 W. Main St. in this Dauphin County community.

Police said the rape was reported by the victim, a 17-year-old Lykens girl.

Police said their investigation is ongoing and that no additional information was available.

Woman finds pool

torn, drained

WICONISCO — State police at Lykens are investigating a criminal mischief that occurred between 10:30 p.m. Monday and 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of Pottsville Street in this Dauphin County community.

Police said Melissa Hite reported someone used some type of object to put a six-inch tear in her pool, causing it to be drained.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 717-362-8700.

Police: Teen took

pills from mother

McADOO — An 18-year-old borough man was arrested by McAdoo police on drug charges after an incident about 8:30 p.m. May 26 to the rear of South Kennedy Drive.

Police said Edward J. Bielen III, 32 N. Manning St., was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and will now have to answer before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua.

Police said officers stopped a vehicle for a violation and found Bielen with oxycodone pills that he said he purchased in Hazleton along with clonazepam he said he stole from his mother.

Fight, damages

result in charges

GIRARDVILLE — A man is facing charges of criminal trespass by Girardville police after a domestic incident May 23 at 232 B St.

Police said Gregory Wilson, 27, and his brother were outside of the home cursing and yelling at each other. The incident also caused damage to a screen door jam.

Police said Wilson was taken to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, by his parents for a mental evaluation.

Charges against him will be filed with Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale, Frackville.

4 in Girardville

cited for trash

GIRARDVILLE — Girardville police said four people were cited on April 26 for depositing trash at the borough recycling drop-off site.

Charged with the violation were Charity Johnstone, Amber McCracken, Joyce Rawlings and Charlotte Dowling.

All four will now have to answer before Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale, Frackville.

Police investigate

theft in Girardville

GIRARDVILLE — Girardville police are investigating a theft that was reported to their department on May 2.

Police said Eileen Wayne and Raymond Wayne reported that a hydraulic vehicle lift valued at about $6,000 was stolen from their garage April 27 or 28.

During the investigation, police said, officers spoke to Michael Wayne, Eileen Wayne’s nephew, who denied any involvement.

2 men face theft,

weapons charges

LYKENS — Two men were jailed after being arrested by state police at Lykens in connection to an incident about 10:50 a.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of Main Street in this Dauphin County community.

Police said Evan C. Kloss, 19, whose last known address was Tower City, and Toby K. Eichert, 19, whose last known address was 101 W. Market St., Apt. 1, Williamstown, were arraigned at the Dauphin County night court.

Kloss was then committed to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of $25,000 straight cash bail, and Eichert taken to the same facility unable to post $5,000 bail.

Charges against the two could include theft of a motor vehicle, theft, receiving stolen property, prohibited offensive weapons and drug violations.

Police said Kloss stole a 2002 Ford Taurus owned by a Lykens man while it was parked outside of Family Dollar in Lykens.

Kloss was later found by state police and a Lykens borough officer and taken into custody at which time he was found with numerous prohibited offensive weapons, drug paraphernalia, keys to the vehicle he had stolen and the victim’s debit card.

Eichert was found with Kloss and was in possession of stolen property as well as a prohibited offensive weapon.

Both men will now have to appear at preliminary hearings before Magisterial District Judge Rebecca J. Margerum, Elizabethville.

Police are asking that anyone with information on the incident call them at 717-362-8700.

Police: Woman

was trespassing

PORT CARBON — A 19-year-old Kaska woman was jailed after being arrested by state police at Schuylkill Haven stemming from an incident about 5 p.m. Wednesday at Canal and Cherry streets.

Police said Courtney Lee Schweikert was charged with two counts of felony criminal trespass, arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge David J. Rossi, Tremont, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post $10,000 straight cash bail.

Police said they were called to the area for a report of a woman entering homes and found Schweikert, who was later positively identified as the woman entering a home on Canal Street and a home on Cherry Street.

The victims did not know Schweikert or give her permission to be in the homes that she entered, police said.

Schweikert will now have to answer to the charges against her before Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon.

Police find drugs,

seek McAdoo man

McADOO — A McAdoo man is wanted on a number of drug-related charges filed recently by borough police.

According to police, Robert M. Wills, 34, faces a felony charge of possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, along with charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

State parole agents contacted McAdoo police June 1 as they searched for Wills. While at Wills’ residence, agents allegedly found two locked safes and a metal grinder containing a leafy plant, according to police. Agents telephoned Wills and ordered him to the residence but he refused, police said.

A homeowner returned in the meantime and when advised of the locked safes, he gave them to officers, police said. An off-white crystalline substance, which later tested positive for methamphetamine, leaked from a seam on one of the safes, police said.

Officers obtained a search warrant and found 22 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 46 small plastic bags, three digital scales and other items. The substance was sent to the Pennsylvania State Police Crime Lab for further testing.

Anyone who knows Wills’ location is asked to call McAdoo police.
