FRACKVILLE — A woman charged with shooting and killing two roosters in Ashland earlier this year appeared for a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale.
Jenna M. Caso, 21, of 2224 Walnut St., was arrested by Ashland police Patrolman Philip Schlegel and charged with two misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals, one misdemeanor count each of recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct, two summary counts of criminal mischief and three summary charges of violating the ordinance prohibiting the discharge of firearms within the borough limits.
Assistant District Attorney Kimm Montone withdrew the two counts of cruelty to animals and the charge of recklessly endangering another person while Caso waived the six remaining offenses to Schuylkill County Court.
Schlegel charged Caso with shooting the birds about 6:20 a.m. March 8 to the rear of her home.
Caso said the birds had woken her up and had previously threatened the animals on social media, Schlegel reported in his arrest papers.
The officer said that the birds had gotten loose from the Pioneer Tunnel property, they did not pose a threat or danger and police had not received any complaints about the roosters previously.
