Man apprehended
after theft, chase
A 43-year-old Harrisburg man was jailed after being arrested by state police at Schuylkill Haven stemming from incidents between 4:15 and 4:30 p.m. Friday at Fairlane Village mall in Norwegian Township.
Police said Michael S. Felton was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer on charges of retail theft, receiving stolen property, hit-and-run to attended vehicles and other offenses. He was then committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $25,000 straight cash bail.
Police said Felton was seen on security cameras at Kohl’s Department Store taking a jacket valued at $89.99, a pair of athletic shoes valued at $49.99, pajama pants valued at $9.99, jeans valued at $58 and a Dyson vacuum cleaner valued at $699.99 for a total of $909.96.
The man then ran through to the rear of the store and into the stockroom before exiting the building without paying.
Felton then ran to his vehicle, a 2011 Kia Soul, and fled at a high rate of speed traveling behind the mall. In doing so, the man went through a stop sign and was involved in a crash with a vehicle driven by Janet Vesay, Minersville, near Boscov’s Department Store before fleeing the area on foot.
Vesay suffered injuries in the crash, police said, adding that after fleeing Felton was being followed by Kohl’s security and a good Samaritan and ran through Boscov’s and then to the direction of Lowe’s Home Improvement Center where he surrendered and was detained by Capt. Scott Taylor of the Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Department.
Police said they were also assisted by Saint Clair and Palo Alto police.

Police said the vehicle was towed from the scene and the investigation determined that Bevan drove from as far south as the Schuylkill/Berks County line with only the rim on the front passenger-side wheel.
