The North Central Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce announced that Sobriety Checkpoints and Roving DUI Patrols will be conducted now through Monday on routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 1006, 309, 1008, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.
Travelers are reminded to call 911 if they suspect a drunk driver or to call, toll-free, 888-UNDER21, to report underage drinking.
Police: Haven
man admits theft
SAINT CLAIR — Saint Clair police charged a Schuylkill Haven man with a Jan. 10 theft at Wal-Mart.
Police said Christian D. Kuzowsky, 41, of 1 Earl St., Hilltop Mobile Home Park, Lot 28, is charged with retail theft and driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked.
Police said Kuzowsky stole a DVD player and a took kit valued at $187. When confronted by store personnel, he fled in a Ford pickup truck.
The truck was owned by a Saint Clair woman, and police located Kuzowsky at that address. When interviewed, police said, the man admitted he abandoned the items outside of the store and fled.
Kuzowsky will now have to answer to the charges before Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon.
Girardville man
charged over fight
GIRARDVILLE — A borough man was charged with disorderly conduct by state police at Frackville after an incident about 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of 33 W. Ogden St.
Police said Steven R. Melsom, 20, will have to answer to the charge before Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale, Frackville.
Police said Melsom tried to start a fight with two men in the area of that address.
