MINERSVILLE — A borough man and woman were jailed after being arrested by Minersville police Tuesday on drug charges.
Candace Bassininsky, 40, and Sean T. Cooper, 44, both of 233 Stadium St., were each charged with two felony counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance; two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance; and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
They were arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale, Frackville, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $25,000 straight cash bail each.
Patrolman Jeffrey Bowers said the arrests are the result of an ongoing investigation into the sale of methamphetamine in the borough.
He said on Wednesday a search warrant was issued by Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, and executed at the 233 Stadium St. home.
About 2:30 p.m. Bowers said he and Chief Michael Combs, along with patrolmen William Kantner and Kyle Crouse, entered the home and found Cooper and Bassininsky inside.
During a search, Bowers said, police found 15 pre-packaged glassine baggies containing a white crystal substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. They also found three digital scales, multiple ledger sheets and books dealing with drug transactions and money owed, three glassine packages containing various pills, a large purse containing a quantity of new glassine resealable glassine baggies and $401 in cash.
Bowers said that while in custody Bassininsky was read her Miranda Rights, waived those rights and provided a written statement saying the pills belonged to her and Cooper and that she would use methamphetamine and also distribute it to her friends.
Bowers said that as a result of the investigation Cooper and Bassininsky were involved in trafficking methamphetamine and pills from their Stadium Street home.
Both will now have to appear for preliminary hearings before Plachko in his Port Carbon courtroom at a later date.
