FRACKVILLE — The top ten quarter-finalists for the Schuylkill County Junior Idol VIII were announced Wednesday.
The following contestants made it past the opening round:
Ariel Stanalonis, 14, of Frackville; Carmyn Carduff, 15, of Shenandoah; Emilee Slotcavage, 9, of Ashland; Jacqueline Bubnis, 13, of Shenandoah; Jordan Shoffler, 15, of Shenandoah; Kirsten Heiser, 12, of Girardville; Paige Heiser, 13, of Girardville; Raven Wesley, 14, of New Ringgold; Sierra Rose, 15, of Saint Clair; Sydney Stokes, 13, of Ashland.
On Tuesday, 18 contestants shared their talent with the audience. The next round is 6 p.m. Tuesday. The contestants who sang Tuesday ranged in age from ages 9 to 15. The contest is open to those ages 6 to 15 years old. Julia Medina and Maudie Becker were judging those brave and confident enough to sing to the crowd. Contestants were judged in four categories: stage presence, technical ability, showmanship and overall performance, and given a score from 1 to 10. Contestants decided what song they wanted to sing for the audience.
Tuesday they will each sing two songs, one of their choice and the other must be a jazz song.
The contest continues every Tuesday until a winner is announced Feb. 9. The event is sponsored by Pepsi, the Frackville Rotary, Totally Twisted Pretzel and Rebekah’s Creations.
The winner of Schuylkill County Junior Idol VIII will receive a $500 Schuylkill Mall shopping spree, a $100 gift certificate courtesy of the Bon-Ton, a professional photo shoot courtesy of Michael’s Photography, Frackville, a gift courtesy of Totally Twisted Pretzel and a chance to perform at the Schuylkill County Fair in August.
