n Frackville: The Frackville Area Fireworks Committee has begun planning its fifth annual fireworks display scheduled for July 3 at dusk at the Little League/Softball Complex on West High Street. The committee is preparing to canvas the community to ask for financial support. Members are looking for volunteers to assist with the distribution of donation requests during March. n Hamburg: The Hamburg Area Arts Alliance will have a spring art show at Cabela’s from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 19 and 20. n Pottsville: Care Net of Schuylkill County will stage The Love Run 5K at 10 a.m. April 30 on the Schuylkill River Trail, Landingville section, near the Landingville Fire Company. It is a 3.1-mile walk/run open to all. There will be a post-run lunch for all participants. The cost is $25 per person if registered by April 18 and $30 the day of the race. n Pottsville: During a recent meeting of the Pottsville Rotary Club, Rotary Foundation Chairwoman Mary Sitcoske presented Paul Harris pins to Bill Parulis, who received a Paul Harris with his fifth sapphire, and Mike Joyce, who received a Paul Harris with one sapphire. Parulis also received a special pin for bringing in a new member — in this case the new members from the former Rotary Club of Minersville. There also was a check presentation during the meeting. Treasurer Jim Cooksey presented Rotary Charities President Gary Scheib with a check for $2,345 from the club for members’ Hops, Vine & Dine tickets. Scholarships Chairman Bill Davidson announced that the board has made a recommendation to name its new scholarship award for a student at Minersville Area High School to be named in honor of William Joseph Parulis, father of club member Bill Parulis, a longtime Minersville Rotarian. The motion passed unanimously, according to the Rotary bulletin. The Minersville Rotary Club recently became part of the Pottsville club.
n Tamaqua: A “Pick & Paint” ceramic workshop will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. March 16 at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St. The cost is $20 and participants will pick four small pieces, two medium pieces or one large piece.
