The public will have another chance to get information about Narcan at a public session Thursday.
Schuylkill County Drug and Alcohol and Clinical Outcomes Group Inc. are hosting the “Public Access to Narcan” event from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Alvernia University-Schuylkill Center, 1544 Route 61, Pottsville.
Narcan, otherwise known as naloxone, is a fast-acting overdose antidote that blocks the effects of heroin and opiates on the brain. The kits will be given to those who complete the training provided at the session.
Those interested should call 570-628-6990 or go online at www.coginc.org by Tuesday.
Two speakers will share information with the public. Dr. John Stefovic will give a presentation titled, “Understanding Addiction and Addiction as a Disease.” He is the first speaker. Stefovic provides medication assisted therapy to clients who attend COGI.
Ricky A. Ney Jr., the owner of Schuylkill United Health Services, will share a presentation titled, “Opioid Overdose Prevention and Reversal via Peer-Administered Narcan.” Ney is an instructor for the American Heart Association and provides training to emergency medical service providers, according to press release about the event. He will share his experiences with the drug and show people how to administer it.
