MAR LIN — The Norwegian Township supervisors discussed replacing a fire hydrant Monday at their monthly meeting.
The township is requesting the Minersville Water Authority relocate a fire hydrant because it is too close to the street.
“This causes a hazard to vehicles, especially during storms with snow accumulation that conceals the hydrant,” a letter to the authority said.
According to the letter, the property owner nearest the hydrant does not object to the proposed move.
Township road foreman Bill Kirwan said the hydrant is not at its previous location, the corner of Beech and Third streets, because someone hit it. He said the hydrant will likely be replaced in a few weeks.
Kirwan also said the road crew was out clearing snow on four occasions in February. The road crew also responded to blocked drains and downed wires and trees after receiving calls from the Schuylkill County Communications Center. The department plans to repair drains and guide rails, among other projects.
The township also asked motorists to deposit trash in appropriate places and not on township roads.
“The roads are a mess,” Kirwan said.
In other business, Harlan West, a member of the planning and zoning commission, said the public is invited to attend and learn about possible zoning changes at a work session slated for 7 p.m. March 14. The commission is reviewing residential areas.
The supervisors also authorized Supervisor Thomas Dallago to sign appropriate financial documents with Gratz Bank on behalf of the township. The other supervisors have already been authorized.
