Frackville Rotary

Jennie Li, daughter of ShuYing Li and Jiang DiLi, was honored as Frackville Rotary Student of the Month for March at a club meeting at Cracker Barrel Restaurant, Frackville.

Jennie is an honor student at North Schuylkill High School, where she is involved in cheerleading and is a member of the cross country team. She volunteers at Frackville’s annual Pumpkin Festival.

She plans to study pre-med at Penn State University or Duquesne University, Pittsburgh.

Mahanoy Middle

Thomas Price III and Jessica Flynn were named students of the month for February by Mahanoy Area Middle School faculty. The program, sponsored by Mahanoy City Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 695, judges nominees on the basis of multiple achievements, character, leadership, citizenship and scholastic aptitude.

Thomas is a son of Thomas and Angela Price, Barnesville, and a member of St. Richard of Chichester Roman Catholic Church, Barnesville. He is involved in seventh- and eighth-grade football, wrestling, track and field, National Junior Honor Society and Theatre Arts.

He volunteers as a junior firefighter with the Ryan Township Fire Company and plans to attend Penn State University to major in nursing and become a member of the wrestling team.

Jessica, a daughter of Richard and Karen Flynn, Mahanoy City, is a member of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Roman Catholic Church, Mahanoy City, where she is a member of ACTION Youth Group and participates in the Living Stations of the Cross and town cleanup. Her activities include National Junior Honor Society, wrestling manager, ski club, chorus, distinguished honor student and second-degree black belt in Jiu-Jitsu Karate.

Jessica volunteers with the Knights of Columbus Thanksgiving dinner deliveries and is scorekeeper at Mahanoy Area wrestling tournaments. She plans to attend college and major in architecture.

Mahanoy Area

Mahanoy Area High School seniors Bryana Messerschmidt and Joseph Bradley were named students of the month for January by Mahanoy City Elks Lodge 695.

Bryana, a daughter of William and Alice Messerschmidt, Barnesville, is a member of the National Honor Society and is involved with student council, Olweus Youth Leadership, band, in which she served as treasurer in her junior year and librarian in her senior year; Lebanon Valley Honors Band, cheerleading, choir, Chordaires, Interact, in which she serves as treasurer; Spanish Club, SADD, Teens Against Tobacco and Theatre Arts club. She is a Meals on Wheels volunteer, was a homecoming candidate this year and participated in the Greater Pottsville Winter Carnival during her junior year.

Bryana lettered in volleyball and is a track and field team member. She plans to at-tend New York University and major in journalism, Lebanon Valley College, Ann-ville, and major in English or Albright College, Albright, and major in English/journalism.

Joseph, a son of Shauna Bradley, Mahanoy Plane, is involved in Interact, Olweus Youth Leadership, choir, SADD and Teens Against Tobacco. He lettered in baseball, cross country, track and field and football, and also participated in basketball.

Joseph is a Meals on Wheels volunteer. Upon graduation, he plans to attend Penn State Schuylkill campus and major in business.

Mahanoy Area seniors Emily Bruce and Christopher Caravella were named students of the month for February by the Mahanoy City Elks.

Emily, a daughter of Debra and Vladimir Bruce, Barnesville, is a member of National Honor Society, student council, Bloomsburg Math Contest team, Olweus Youth Leadership, Bear Pride program, Interact, SADD and Teens Against Tobacco. She was also a homecoming candidate this year.

Emily lettered in softball and served as a team captain. She is a Meals on Wheels volunteer. Upon graduation, she plans to attend Temple University, Philadelphia, and major in pre-pharmacy.

Christopher, a son of Cathy Caravella, Mahanoy Plane, is involved in Olweus Youth Leadership, Bloomsburg Math Contest team, Bear Pride program, band, in which he serves as jazz band coordinator; Schuylkill County Band, choir, Interact, ski club, SADD, Teens Against Tobacco and Theatre Arts. He volunteers for Meals on Wheels.

Christopher lettered in football, track and field and wrestling, and served as a wrestling team captain. He plans to attend Penn State University and major in electrical engineering.

Minersville Area

Minersville Area High School seniors Lauren Womer and Joshua Donley were named students of the month for February.

Lauren, a daughter of Rose and Jim Womer, Pottsville, is a member of SADD, student council, Spanish Club, 1700 club and yearbook club. She is National Honor Society secretary and co-captain of the varsity volleyball team.

Outside of school, Lauren volunteers at Hillside SPCA, Pottsville, and with the Red Cross blood drive and is a blood donor. She plans to attend West Chester University and major in biology.

Joshua, a son of Mark and Karen Curran Donley, Pottsville, is president of the marching/concert band and school chorus, and vice president of the Academic League and German Club. He is a member of the annual musical, Teens Against Tobacco, SADD, senior class advisory board, varsity cheerleading and track and field.

Outside of school, Joshua participated in Schuylkill County Band and Chorus, PMEA District 10 Band and Chorus, PMEA Region 5 Band and Pennsylvania Lions All State Band. He plans to attend Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, and study business and finance with a music performance minor.

Pine Grove Area

Angela Peiffer and Shane Beuchler were named March seniors of the month for Pine Grove Area High School.

Angela is a daughter of Mark and Karen Peiffer, Pine Grove, and she studies in the honors and advanced placement curricula. Her high school activities include marching and concert band, Art club, SADD, student council, fall and competition cheerleader, National Honor Society and yearbook staff as yearbook editor.

She plans to attend Bloomsburg University.

Shane is a son of David and Debra Beuchler, Tremont, and studies in the post-secondary curriculum. His high school activities include Cardinal Marching Band, concert band and jazz band.

He plans to join the work force following graduation.
