n Frackville: There will be an open house at the Frackville Museum, located in the Frackville Municipal & Community Center, 42 S. Center St., from 1 to 4 p.m. April 10. Admission is free and visitors, according to a press release, will be able to view the spring displays. For more information, call 570-874-3531.

n Helfenstein: God’s Chuckwagon mobile soup kitchen, which provides free meals in eight communities in Northumberland and Schuylkill counties, is looking for sponsors and monthly commitments of $25 to keep its food ministry going, according to the Rev. James Bowers, who with his wife, Janet, spearheads the effort. “We are asking for help to keep running,” he said in a release. “Besides food, we also have to pay for fuel for the bus and insurances.” Meals served include soup, sandwiches, desserts, beverages and salads. The chuckwagon also provides bread and, in the winter, hats, scarves, gloves and blankets as well as “care packages,” according to the release. From 4 to 5 p.m. and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. four days a week, the chuckwagon visits communities as follows: Mondays, Mount Carmel and Kulpmont; Tuesdays, Trevorton and Shamokin; Wednesdays, Frackville and Girardville; and Thursdays, Shenandoah and Mahanoy City. Bowers said the effort also has a food pantry at its church in Helfenstein and is a 501(c)3 charitable organization and all donations go to God’s Chuckwagon, which is run by volunteers with no one being paid. “We accept any type of donations,” Bowers said in the release, “from food, supplies and (to) monetary donations.” He added that volunteers are always welcome. n Pottsville: The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 413 will meet at 1 p.m. April 12 at the Yorkville Hose Company, 20th and West Norwegian streets. Frank Snyder, Pennsylvania forester, will present a program that will include a short outside neighborhood walk. Light lunch will be served. For more information, call 570-294-0195.

n Ringtown: The Friends of the Ringtown Library support group’s annual used book sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Schuylkill Mall, Frackville — no early birds. The sale will include thousands of books in hardcover and paperback, books for children and adult, as well as DVDs, audio books, puzzles, board games and magazines. People will be able to fill a bag for $5 on April 3 only. All proceeds will benefit library operations. For more information, visit the library website at www.ringtownlibrary.org.

n Schuylkill Haven: Covenant United Methodist Church, 215 E. Main St., will have a spaghetti supper from 4 to 7 p.m. April 9 at the church. The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 6. n Shenandoah: The Greater Shenandoah Area Historical Society will gather at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the 201 S. Main St. history center. Speaker Karen Esak will focus on Sophia Cox, “Angel of the Anthracite Fields.” Admission is free, the public is welcome and refreshments will be served. The society will also sponsor “Treasure Appraisals” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 25 with appraiser George Blum at the history center. Admission is $5, which includes one appraisal. There will also be three appraisals for $10 and appraisals are limited to three per person. All are welcome.

n Sheppton: The Sheppton-Oneida Volunteer Fire Company, 900 Center St., will sponsor bingo games from 1 to 4 p.m. April 10 at the firehouse. Food and refreshments will be available. For more information, call 570-233-0935.

n Tamaqua: A “Paint & Sip with Art N Vino” will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 12 for “In a Silent Place” and April 13 for “Blue Butterfly” at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St. The cost is $40 per person, which includes all supplies.
