James K. Reiley

A Minersville man charged with fighting with personnel at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street and also resisting efforts by Pottsville police to bring him under control on Feb. 21 waived his right to a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley, Pottsville.

Eric S. Guscott, 30, of 577 Lewis St. was arrested by Pottsville police Patrolman Paul Olson and charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest and disorderly conduct and summary public drunkenness. By waiving his right to a hearing Guscott will now have to answer to all three charges in Schuylkill County Court.

Olson charged Guscott with running around the emergency room, violently flailing his arms and legs and yelling unrecognizable phrases while medical personnel were attempting to treat him. When approached by police Olson said the man became increasingly aggressive, ignored commands to calm down and actively resisted being taken into custody.

Olson said Guscott was so out of control that substantial force was needed to restrain him to a hospital bed.
