ORWIGSBURG — An Orwigsburg man was jailed after being charged by state police with threatening his mother while holding a chain saw on Friday.
Police from the Schuylkill Haven station charged Edward J. Taylor Jr., 25, of 506 W. Market St., with felony aggravated assault; misdemeanor crimes of terroristic threats, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person; and summary offenses of harassment and criminal mischief.
Taylor was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of 10 percent of $25,000 bail.
In paperwork filed with the court, Trooper Thomas Luscan said the charges against Taylor stem from an incident about 5:35 p.m. at 670 Faith Ave. in West Brunswick Township.
Luscan said Taylor arrived in a Jeep at his mother’s home, where he drove through the bushes at the end of a long driveway and parked on the lawn. He then entered the home through a garage and broke an interior door leading to the kitchen off its hinges.
The trooper said Taylor then began angrily shouting and screaming at his mother, saying he was going to kill her and burn the house down.
At that point, Taylor went to his vehicle, retrieved a chain saw and re-entered the house carrying it, continuing to shout obscenities at his mother and threatening to kill her and burn down the house.
Taylor went to his vehicle again, grabbed an ax and continued screaming threats to kill his mother and burn the house down, the trooper said.
Fearing for her life, Taylor’s mother called 911 and locked herself in her vehicle while Taylor re-entered the house with the ax.
Taylor was subsequently taken into custody and no injuries were reported.
